چکیده

Not infrequently, in pediatric practice one is confronted by anxious parents of children with voiding abnormalities. These include children who wet themselves, have frequent micturtion, urgency or dribbling. In these subjects investigations like urinalysis, renal ultrasound, intravenous urogram or voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) are usually conducted. Often, the results of these investigations are normal. More recently, these voiding abnormalities have been approached in a more scientific way and it is possible to detect underlying alterations in lower urinary tract dynamics as the cause of these problems(l). Appropriate pharmacological therapy may provide a satisfactory and lasting solution to this vexed problem. The present preliminary study was, therefore, designed to evaluate the cystometric findings in children with non-neurogenic voiding dysfunctions.

Voiding pattern analysis as a surrogate for cystometric evaluation in uroplakin II knockout mice.

PURPOSE Previous study has shown that the absence of uroplakin II can cause urinary tract dysfunction, including vesicoureteral reflux and renal abnormalities, as well as micturition pattern changes. We developed a simple surrogate measure of bladder function using ultraviolet visualization of urinary voiding patterns in a uroplakin II knockout mouse animal model. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three ...

Chronic Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Young Men Without Symptoms of Chronic Prostatitis: Urodynamic Analyses in 308 Men Aged 50 Years or Younger

PURPOSE We investigated the etiologies of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and compared urodynamic characteristics between different diagnostic groups in young men with chronic LUTS. MATERIALS AND METHODS We reviewed the medical records of 308 men aged 18 to 50 years who had undergone a urodynamic study for chronic LUTS (≥6 months) without symptoms suggestive of chronic prostatitis. RESU...

Synergistic Activities of Abdominal Muscles Are Required for Efficient Micturition in Anesthetized Female Mice

PURPOSE To characterize the electromyographic activity of abdominal striated muscles during micturition in urethane-anesthetized female mice, and to quantitatively evaluate the contribution of abdominal responses to efficient voiding. METHODS Cystometric and multichannel electromyographic recordings were integrated to enable a comprehensive evaluation during micturition in urethane-anesthetiz...

Clinical, imaging and cystometric findings of voiding dysfunction in children.

UNLABELLED The AIM of the study was to validate some of the imaging criteria for voiding dysfunction in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included a number of 55 children with voiding dysfunction symptoms. They were investigated clinically as well as through imaging techniques: renourinary ultrasound, voiding cystourethrography and cystometry. RESULTS The most common symptoms were ur...

Voiding function in obese and type 2 diabetic female rats.

The effects of obesity and type 2 diabetes (DMII) on the lower urinary tract (LUT) were characterized by evaluating voiding function and anatomy in female Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats. Age-matched female virgin rats were separated into three experimental groups: Zucker lean rats (control; normal diet, n = 22), ZDF rats (obese+nondiabetic; low-fat diet, n = 22), and ZDF rats (obese+diabetic;...
